Esalen Massage
The therapist brings a knowledge of strokes (many have roots in Swedish Massage), of muscles and bones, of movement, of listening to the body as well as the words. Prior to the session, she pays attention to her own physical comfort, and quiets down internal chatter to welcome inner guidance, or intuition. As she massages, the practitioner responds to the signs of relaxation: deepened breath, enhanced circulation, a sigh, perhaps flutters of the eyelids. Each session is unique, tailored by personal requests, comfort level, physical tension and release, the felt sense of intuition. This massage unites the torso, arms legs, hands, feet, neck, and spirit and treats the body as a complete unit.
The effects of this intentional touch, loosely categorized as "wellness/stress management massage", range widely. For some, it brings a renewed sense of health and vigor, others may regain a sense of safety with regard to touch. Often old tension patterns break free and old emotions are released. It signals a return to one's nature, a switch from everyday consciousness into a calmer, more colorful space less inhabited by the constraints of time and place. An out-of-ordinary reality.
The sources of this rich work are endless: it was informed by sensory awareness, Swedish massage, oriental medicine, meditation, gestalt practice. The influence of deeper work borrowed from Ida Rolf's teachings, Moshe Feldenkrais' sense of neural co-ordinates, Milton Trager's passive movement to awaken the mind, yoga stretches, somatic mind-body psychology, and more energetically based polarity massage and cranial-sacral work continue to "grow" the work. Each practitioner translates this into his/her personal art form.
At the heart of the session is a sense of empowering each individual to regain a sense of harmony, reverence, and balance, and to awaken inner resources for healing. It is not unusual to hear, "That was the most amazing massage I've ever received."
Thai Bodywork
Thai Bodywork (Thai massage) is a healing art widely practiced in Thailand as a method of maintaining health for people of all ages. Traditional to the Thai culture, this practice combines the medical wisdom of Ayurveda and Yoga from India , and is also influenced by traditional Chinese medicine.
During a treatment, the recipient is completely passive. The practitioner moves and supports the recipient in various yoga-like stretches. (For this reason, Thai massage is sometimes referred to as "Lazy Man's Yoga".) The practitioner will also apply pressure in a gentle rocking motion along the sen sip or energy lines of the body. A typical treatment includes muscle compression, joint mobilization and acupressure techniques and has both a relaxing and energizing effect on the body and mind.
The treatment is performed on a padded shiatsu mat on the floor. No oil or lotion is used. The recipient is asked to wear comfortable clothes that are not restrictive to the breath.
Motivated by the practice of Metta, or Loving Kindness, the treatment is a balanced, flowing series of techniques that are beneficial to the recipient, as well as to the practitioner.
Thai Yoga Bodywork reduces stress, improves circulation, increases energy, increases flexibility, improves range of motion, and has an overall centering effect on the mind and body.
Cranial Sacral
With light touch and gentle manipulations to the CranioSacral system, self-corrected physiological activities take place to correct imbalances and treat a host of health problems. This visionary approach is designed to introduce analytical and intuitive understanding of CranioSacral work. It is the art of healing touch. This exquisitely sensitive, subtle and careful work can be highly effective when properly applied; the gentlest of approaches is often more powerful than the most robust.
The CranioSacral wave is an intelligent form of communication, just as informative as the radial pulse is to the acupuncturist. It is one way that the soul has to express its views.
A cranial therapist is trained to "palpate", or feel with his or her hands, the motion of the CranioSacral system as a unified, integrated movement. The touch is extremely gentle and sensitive, and one is able to diagnose the movement of the system as a whole by locating critical points of restriction in the cranium.
Restrictions which result from injury, inflexibility of the joints of the spine and cranium, or from dysfunctions in other parts of the body can cause abnormal motion in the CranioSacral system. The abnormal motion leads to stresses in the cranial mechanism which can contribute to dysfunction and poor health, especially in the brain and spinal cord. The purpose of CranioSacral therapy is to enhance the functioning of this important system.
When there is synchronous movement in the CranioSacral system, the physiology of the central nervous system functions more efficiently and the nerve tissue is, in general, healthier. CranioSacral therapy is rapidly gaining acceptance among health practitioners and the public. This may be due in part to the non-intrusive nature of this therapy and how it works with the entire structure, physiology, mind, and spirit.
*Raindrop Therapy
*Cranial Sacral
*Reiki
Raindrop has helped bring relief to chronic pain sufferers and has been known to cause visible improvement in scoliosis. It has also been used successfully on horses and other animals.
Raindrop was developed by D. Gary Young, founder of Young Living Essential Oils, based on techniques taught to him by a Lakota medicine man named Wallace Black Elk. In Lakota Native American healing practices, healers sweep a feather upwards along the spine in imitation of the Northern Lights, which are revered for their healing energy.
7 single oils and 2 therapeutic blends are used during the treatment. A person receiving raindrop lays facedown as oils are dropped up their back from a height of 6-12 inches. The oils are gently massaged in with the Lakota “feathering” motion. After the essential oils have been applied, a towel soaked in hot water is applied to the back to drive the oils further into the body.
Additional Modalities Include:
*Swedish Massage
*Prenatal
*Hot Stones
*Herbal Dowsing
